OVERVIEW OF THE WORLD ELECTRONIC CONNECTOR MARKET

In 2010, the connector industry’s sales grew +28.4 percent, the largest year-over-year growth in connector history.  All regions had double digit growth, with the Asia Pacific region exhibiting the greatest growth with a year-over-year increase of 40.3 percent, followed by China with year-over-year growth of 34.5 percent.

 The following chart shows the percent change in world connector sales by year, beginning in 1981. There have been only five (5) sales declines in the past thirty (30) years.  In 2009, industry sales were down -22.0 percent, setting a record for the worst year in industry history.

China
China is the largest connector region of the world, and totaled $10.833 billion in 2010. China experienced a year-over-year sales increase of +34.5 percent in 2010, the highest year-over-year increase since 2000.  Over the past sixteen years, China has experience only one year of decline, 2009.  Over this same sixteen year period, China has achieved a compound average growth rate of +XX.X percent.

REGIONAL SUMMARY

As the table below indicates, the economic boom of 2010, dramatically changed the connector industry’s five-year compound annual growth rate, increasing it from +X.X percent for the period 2004-2009, to +X.X percent for the period, 2005-2010. The significance of the strength of 2010 economic boom is reflected in the increase in the past 10-year and 20-year compound annual growth rate to +Y.Y percent and +Z.Z percent respectively, from +Y.Y percent and +Z.Z percent.

END-USE EQUIPMENT SECTORS

Automotive was the largest end-use equipment sector for electronic connector products, with 2010 shipments of $X.XXX billion.  Connectors utilized in the automotive sector accounted for YY.YY percent of all connectors manufactured.  Connectors used in the computer and peripheral sector followed closely behind automotive, with YY.YY percent of the total market.  You will find detailed definitions of each market sector at www.connectorindustry.com.
